GREAT GRATER!
This is a nice alternative to the box grater without the cleanup issues...my only complaint is with the protective cover...it just isn't easy to get on & off (perhaps it's me?) and the edge of it has already chipped off. Another good, great, micorplane product.

bloody knuckles
I thought that several sizes of these hand held microplane graters would be a good replacement for the microplane box grater I have - the first one that is very narrow. Not so. The ultra coarse grater, although very sharp, is awkward to hold and the food does not glide smoothly back and forth across the blade. The only thing I have grated with it consistently is my flesh. Very unsatisfied.
This beats a box grater
I have the Microplane box grater, but, let's face it, box graters are clumsy. If you're gonna have one, I have the best. But I still don't like it, which lead me to buying this. I used it last night for the first time on a block of cheddar for taco's. Ok, LOVE IT! Sharp, as you'd expect from Microplane, and big. Bigger than that pic looks. I read someone said the cover is a little hard to get off. It is, but you can do it, and hey, it's for your safety, so it's hardly an issue in my opinion. The grater is great and the no slip bar on the bottom works good too. I'm so glad I ditched my box grater. Microplane is the best.
